Overtourism related to the cruise industry affects certain destinations, particularly popular hotspots, where infrastructure reaches its limits. Using Dubrovnik as an example, Sascha Gill suggests that managing the timing of ship arrivals could ease the pressure without reducing visitor numbers. Moreover, he asserts that coordinated visitor management is a more effective solution than introducing bans or new taxes. Destinations and cruise operators could collaborate to redirect visitor flows, offer alternative attractions, and prevent crowds from shifting towards less controllable individual tourism.
