In April 2024, the Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt GmbH (KD) will launch trendy event cruises on their new hotel ship, “KD Moment.” Departing from Cologne or Düsseldorf, these weekend journeys will visit renowned cities and beaches in the Netherlands and legendary sites along the Middle Rhine. With events that include overnight stays and popular formats such as the “Original Krimdinner,” guests are invited to experience these new adventure voyages.

About the “KD Moment”
Since April 2024, the “KD Moment” has been a part of the KD fleet and is the first proprietary hotel ship of KD since the late 1990s. Built in 2008 and extensively modernized in 2022, the ship primarily sails on the Rhine. Measuring 135 meters in length, the “KD Moment” offers a high-quality, modern, and stylish ambiance across three passenger decks and 86 cabins.
All double cabins are modern and elegantly appointed. A special feature includes the Comfort Double Cabins with private balconies and luxurious suites for added comfort. Guests are treated to culinary delights by the KD crew at the “1826” restaurant, which offers high-quality regional cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For enjoyable moments in a pleasant atmosphere, the “Docks” bar and lounge is the perfect spot. The spacious sun deck provides ample space to relax and enjoy the passing scenery.
When Moments Become Memories – Event Cruises for Every Taste
Traveling on water is a unique experience, and the new event cruises stand out with their special themes.
“Dream destinations in the heart of Europe and exceptional events await our guests. They can experience City Moments, Party Moments, Legendary Moments, Special Moments, Magic Moments, and Beach Moments – or one after another!” explains Nina Luig, CEO of KD. The planning and execution of this new offering are all under the theme “When moments become memories.” “On our hotel ship, we aim to create moments that turn into unique memories for our guests. Hence the name of the ship: KD Moment,” Luig continues.
Guests can choose from six different themes for their event cruise. The classic event cruise from Friday to Sunday with two overnight stays and full board is available starting at 399 euros per person. For those looking to familiarize themselves with these new experiences, the “Special Moments” offer a particular event with an overnight stay.
Special Moments
There are three different 2-day tours from Cologne or Düsseldorf. The Wine Dinner includes a three-course meal paired with regional wines, followed by an overnight stay on the Rhine. The first Wine Dinner from April 19-20, departing from Cologne, will also be the premiere voyage of the KD Moment. Rheinhessen winemaker Lisa Bunn will provide the perfect wine accompaniment onboard.
Fans of Cologne songs will love the “Fahrt mit K – The Cologne Evening for Singing Along.” At the Krimi Hotel, travelers can enjoy an exciting and entertaining crime evening with a first-class menu. These overnight journeys are perfect for those looking to try out water travel. Special Moments tours, including overnight stay, program, dinner, and breakfast, start at 199 euros per person.
City Moments – City Tours in the Netherlands
The 4-day City Moments tours start from Cologne, travel down the Rhine, and along the Waal to Rotterdam. The Dutch metropolis fascinates with its unique architecture scene. The return trip includes a stop in the dynamic and trendy Nijmegen.
Party Moments – Party in the Netherlands
During the Party Moments, it’s “City, Country, Party!” The KD Moment departs from Düsseldorf for the weekend to Rotterdam or Amsterdam and returns in high spirits. Guests can choose between “Schlagerwelle” or “80s/90s Back to the Future” to celebrate the party of their lives with like-minded individuals and KD’s DJs.
Beach Moments
What could be better than a short trip to the beach on a ship? During the Beach Moments, travelers experience unforgettable moments on the water, shop in beautiful Zaandam, or take a bus shuttle to the beach at Wijk aan Zee – a true relaxation experience.
Legendary Moments
In addition to the various facets of the Netherlands, the romantic Rhine Valley can also be explored from aboard the ship. The mystical charm of the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage site, the Middle Rhine, with over 20 medieval castles, palaces, and romantic wine villages, is the focus of the Legendary Moments. Depending on the travel date, the wine journeys include a visit to wine festivals in Bingen, Rüdesheim, or Boppard.
Magic Moments
Some moments are magical. During the Magic Moments, guests experience unforgettable hours on the hotel ship and on land during the winter season. The KD crew takes them to atmospheric Christmas markets along the Middle Rhine during Advent. A special highlight is the Christmas and New Year’s Eve cruise on the Rhine.
KD River Cruises
Until the late 1990s, KD was a successful provider of river cruises with its hotel ships. KD is even considered the inventor of river cruises and built the first cabin ship ever, the MS Europa, in 1960. Due to a corporate realignment, this branch was sold in 2000. Since 2018, KD has been active again in the hotel ship business, primarily providing hotel ships for international trade fairs. In 2022, KD offered event cruises for the first time on the chartered hotel ship MS Swiss Crystal.
